The Horton General Hospital Banbury




The ‘Save The Horton’ group have been left stunned this morning after sources claim the Oak Ward is due to close at the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

It is also being alleged by the group that F ward at the hospital is to be downsized.

The closure will result in a loss of 36 beds and 60 staff re-deployed, which could happen by the 3rd October 2016.

Oak Ward houses acute general medicine patients while F Ward takes trauma and orthopaedic patients.

Staff and campaigners were left stunned by the announcement, which had neither been discussed at the Community Partnership Forum, or opened up to any form of consultation.

The Oxford University Hospitals Trust has yet to issue a statement on the allegations.

A local resident said to us “It can’t be right that they are reducing the services at our local hospital at a time when the population of Banbury is increasing fast, with the building of all these new houses”.

    The hospital facilities are needed here not over twenty miles away, as others have pointed out Banbury is a fast growing area, it is outrageous that outside sources can decide which services we can and cannot keep, local people pay into the National Health the same as people based Oxford way, do not steal services we are entitled to, they are not a favour, people have paid for them, trips to Oxford are inconvenient for people for some impossible. Think again before you steal our local services.

    I am stunned about the alleged closure of the Oak Ward in the Horton Hospital. The population is growing in Banbury, and it takes about 45 minutes by ambulance to get to the John Radcliffe.
    Only yesterday did we received a leaflet from the Conservative party. Stating Banbury Conservatives are ABSOLUTELY committed to the future of the Horton General Hospital. Can I be assured that it is a rumour and that no plans of total closure.

    We have a new PM let’s make her to leave this hospital alone or increase the services as Banbury is growing so fast and Oxford is much to far away.

    I am saddened and disgusted by this news as I sit by my father’s bed side in Oak Ward. Every bed is continually occupied and the staff are wonderful even though they are thin on the ground. What on earth do these ‘decision’ makers hope to achieve? Maybe the NHS should make money saving cuts from the top.

    One minute Banbury is to have a new hospital the next it’s being down graded again. Why can’t those appointed to make the proposals tell the truth rather than continually ducking & diving. Has any consideration been given to the 4000 housings being built in Banbury and 10000 in Bicester to say nothing about other towns in the county. The JR main hospital is dated built in early 19 70’s and requires major updating.
    The car parks can’t cope now and it can
    take 2 hours in term time

    Can’t believe they are closing the Oak Ward at the Horton hospital where my grandma died. Gone but never forgotten.

    I think this is badly thought out. We have houses being built in Banbury and surrounding villages and we are on a major junction of the M40 so how on earth can closing wards or any other parts of The Horton be sensible? I have also heard that Maternity is also closing and being run by midwives only so what happens to someone in labour who runs into complications by the time they are moved to Oxford both mother and baby could be lost so where is the sense in all this?
