Banbury United Football Club have signed the versatile James Fawke who can play in defence or in midfield.

The signing of James Fawke, who was in Cinderford’s championship winning team last season, has been part funded by supporters contributing to the “Spencer Villa” Players Fund.

United Manager Mike Ford was quick to welcome James to the club and said “James is only 23 but has good experience already and won the league with Cinderford last season. He’s a versatile player and I’m really pleased we’ve been able to bring him to Banbury United. I’m delighted that the Spencer Villa fund has helped us to make this signing happen and I want to thank the fans for helping me to enhance the squad.”

Commercial Director Mark Allitt endorsed Mike’s comments and added “The fans have been really generous in supporting the Spencer Villa Fund and we now have 39 members which is growing every week. I can’t thank the fans enough for supporting the club in this way. It means they are funding Felipe Barcelos and part funding James Fawke so it shows how important this fund is in helping us push the club forward.”

James was at Cheltenham Town from the age of nine and progressed through to captaining their youth side. He had a spell on “work experience” with Gloucester City in 2011 where he gained experience in Conference North. After being released by Cheltenham, he moved to the US where he had three seasons with the Missouri State University side before spending season 2014/15 with Chicago Fire U23s. Last summer he signed for Cinderford Town and was a regular last season in the side that had an excellent defensive record and won the Southern League South & West Championship. He signed for Oxford City prior to the start of this season but made no competitive appearances for them.

Provided there are no problems with the acceptance of his registration when submitted to the Southern League tomorrow then he will be available for Saturday’s game against Dorchester Town.
